Google Knol a Proper Approach to this Market

Google the owner of all things apparent on the internet, or at least positioning itself to be such, has opened the doors to the general pubic for it’s new service Knol.

Google Knol is a user based information source not unlike the current Wiki. It also allows the incorporation of the users Adsense account as an incentive to supply Knol with content.  You can think of Knol as a Squidoo alternative, but from more of an Authoritative perspective.

From a strategic standpoint, Google Knol is shaping itself to attempt to gain the Wiki writers crowd and the pro blogger or Squidoo professionals.  The enticement of your own Adsense adds displayed upon a Google Platform and authoritative potential should be enough motivation for most.  Considering Google’s weight, we can predict that Knol pages may be given the old Google Plus when it comes to Search Engine Results.

Currently Wiki holds the weight, but why would Google not want to display it’s own service with a bit of a boost, especially since Adsense / Adwords will be displayed.

Know that you know a little bit more insight into the Google Knol platform it would be wise to talk about this from a marketing perspective. I know many of you are probably Gung ho to start creating pages for you Sales niches, but here is what you should consider.

First Google Knol is associated with your Google ID or Google Gmail, You have a public persona. It would behoove you to keep that public persona in a positive light.  I suggest that you create Knol pages upon topics of which you are skilled, a true authority or research enough to write a “WhitePaper” type article. If you have a niche around a topic and truely know that topic or market, then it would make sense that you could write a decent article about that topic.

When writing Knol articles, I would suggest that you write them from an authoritative or academic approach  even from a “debate” style approach.  present the facts and argument. Don’t try and SELL a Product. This is not the platform and will only hurt you if you attempt to be “spammy” or “Used Car Sales man” style articles to promote your “Product or Service”.

A well written article that provides facts, has several reference links ( one of which includes your site ) will go a long way rather than a Sales Letter article. Think in term of what you would see on Wiki. A good overview of a topic and with reference links.

The Long Term Outlook Of Google Knol via SEO & Marketing.

Currently a link from Wiki has beneficial SEO power and Ranking weight. With Knol you can create this same potential weight even greater since we can assume Google will give more credence to their own platform.  A well placed link to your site, along with other links you don’t own, will create a decent Authority post on the Keyword Term.  From an SEO perspective, you will get not only click through traffic from the Knol article, but a nice authority link to your website which will in turn Help your Search Engine Ranking position (SERP).

So heed my advice, don’t shoot yourself in the foot, by trying to Spam or backhat, or weakly create a Knol Article.  The benefits of using it as intended will pay off greatly down the road.  A short sided approach to Knol will get you no where.
