Google SERP observations

January 30th, 2006 · 2 Comments

Since we assume Google is in the middle of an update, I thought I would do some additional research. I had a “prospect” contact me about their site, because they were not showing up in the Google index anymore.

They had a cache of the 27th, but were not in the index. I assured him that when Google goes through an update they usually revert to their data-center date form 3-4 months ago, his site was only 2 months old.

I checked on several of my new sites. www.knee-surgery-info.net and www.knee-surgery-info.com to check then out as well since they are real new. The .net is only a week old and still in the index. The .com that is over 2 months old is not in the index, despite a site: of 8 pages listed. The .com site ( no duplicate content) has allintitle: Knee Surgery #2 / Allinachor: #58 Allintitle: 39 but not listed in top 750 for allintitle.

I didn’t expect a SERP because their are 6 million plus results via Google. The sandbox theory definitely applies here based on the allin factors, the page should be ranking around 100-200.

Since the site was not ranking int he Allintext, I did a quick word count and keyword density check. The word count was only 195 for the index page with an acceptable 7% KW Density. I increased the Word count to be in the 250 neighborhood and will increase it to 500 over the course of the next couple of days a few paragraphs at a time. this process will show the bots that their is fresh content and google will visit faster.

One of the really interesting factors that I finally have evidence upon is that Google is filtering blogspot blog sites from their index. I didn’t rank in Serps, or any allin terms for a blog spot that had the same KW and is aged for about 6 months which has more backlinks then the other two sites
